|Biographical Notes||Merchant, author of the dissertation no 4. of the Lyon academic prize contest. As he was not aware of the rules of the contest, he added his name. |
The reviewer of the contest, count Laurencin, wrote about him and his work: "A couple of lines by a certain Gendre who says he is a merchant in Guillestre. He says he never had any schooling. This is quite easy to spot. How could such a piece find itself in the contest?" Laurencin adds a joke: he pretends to almost misread 'marchand' (merchant) for 'manant' (beggar).
