Biographical NotesAlsatian humanist and encyclopedist. Studied Philosophy at Heidelberg 1535-39, before teaching Grammar and Dialectics at Basel from 1542. He married Chretienne Herbster, sister of the printer Johannes Oporinus, and became stepfather to her son Theodor Zwinger. Author of several works but best know for the 'Theatrum vitae humanae' (1565) started by Lycosthenes but finished by Zwinger after the formers death in 1561.
