Biographical NotesBorn to a noble family in Perugia, Danti entered the Dominican order in 1555. By 1562 he was in Florence in the service of Duke Cosimo I, where he worked on projects on art, architecture, and scientific instruments, including making of globes and astrolabes. He occupied the chair of mathematics in Bologna from 1576. He prepared chorographies of Perugia and Orvieto. In 1580, Pope Gregory XIII called him to Rome as papal cosmographer and mathematician working on calendar reform. He was appointed bishop of Alatri in 1583.
