Philip Playstowe

Biographical NotesPhilip Playstowe has been suggested as the author of 'The Gentleman's Guide in his Tour Through France.' an anonymous work whose author is listed as 'Wrote by an officer in the Royal-Navy'. See Factotum: newsletter of the XVIIIth century STC, British Library, Oct. 1984, pp.12-13. Later editions often attributed to John Milard, though the basis for this attribution is uncertain. Neither of these figures appear in ODNB.
