Biographical NotesGerman scholar, historian, Orientalist and Hebraist. Professor of history and later Oriental languages in Altdorf. In later life also chair of ecclesiastical law. Best known for his works texts condemning and refuting Jewish anti-Christian opinions, he was, however, against forced baptism, and refuted the accusations of ritual murder.
He has also wrote several pedagogical treatises, a 'Tractatus Politicus-Historicus' (Geneva, 1687) which provides useful instructions for travelling noblemen, and the 'Von Erziehung Eines Jungen Printzen' (1705), a book on the education of young princes, which contains a chapter on travel.
