| Biographical Notes | Courtier and author. As tutor to Roger Manners he travelled through France, Italy and Germany from 1595-97. He undertook a second journey as tutor to Francis Manners 1598-1600. The party which included Inigo Jones, was received by Emperor Rudolf II. Dallington was involved in Essex's Rebellion 1601. He was gentleman-in-ordinary to both Prince Henry and Prince Charles. Appointed master of the Charterhouse in 1624 and knighted on 30 December 1624. In addition to his ‘Method for Travell’ which concentrates on France, he published ‘A Survey of the Great Dukes State of Tuscany’ (1605). See ODNB. |
