| Biographical Notes | Scottish nobleman and politician. Major actor and de facto ruler in Scotland during the civil war. Also a leading figure in the Covenanter movement. Argyll was bitterly estranged from his son Archibald Campbell, Lord Lorne, who was a leader of the Royalist faction. Executed in 1661 by Charles II. See ODNB. |
